The more informal tables stay on the shorter side while the formal tablecloth drops are on the longer side.
Tablecloth sizes are determined by the shape and size of your table. To decide which size of tablecloth your table needs take a few simple measurements: measure width and length. For the drop, 8 inches is a perfect drop for almost every occasion, add 16 inches to each measurement. (8" drop x 2)

At a formal dinner, the tablecloth should hang 15 inches over the table's edge. An overhang of nine inches is preferred (and more practical) for everyday dinners. Check the size of your table for the correct tablecloth fit.

All linens should be free of excess food so shake your tablecloths before washing to remove foreign debris. Wash like fabrics together and do not mix Polyester with Poly/Cotton Blends. Wash dark colors separately. Do not overload washer or dryer and make sure both are in good working condition with no rough areas that could snag your delicate tablecloth fabrics. If you gradually cool your linens in the dryer, this will avoid temperature shock and prevent excessive wrinkling. Fold your linens immediately after removing them from the dryer. Remember that specific fabrics have specific care instructions so it is important to read them before washing.

Common kitchen decor questions
How do I measure my table for a tablecloth?
Great question! First you need to measure the width and length of your table. (Don't forget to add the leaves to your measurements.)
Length + Length + Width + Width
Once you have those, measure the "drop." The drop is the distance from the table edge that the tablecloth hangs over. A simple way to measure the drop is to place a sheet, or any material that drapes well, on the table. Set it to where it hangs over the edge, and once you have a drop that pleases you, measure the distance from the table top to the bottom of the drape. (Round all measurements to the nearest whole number.) Once you've decided on the desired length of your drop, its time for some math (simple math, I assure you). Add the drop to both the width and the length. An 8" (or 9") drop is average, add 16" to both the length and width; 2 ends, 2 sides.
L + L + 16 = Total length (in inches)
W + W + 16 = Total width (in inches)
Note that the longer the drop, the more formal the setting becomes, 15" being a very formal drop. A drop of less than 5" is not recommended.
The total length and width measurements, plus the drop additions, equal your tablecloth size. There may not be a perfect size for your table, so you may need to find the closest size to what you want and go from there.
How do I select a table runner size?
Remember, the length of your table runner is largely determined by that look you want to create. Table runners don't need to hang over the table edge, and there are few rules regarding this. The only rule you can choose to follow is the formal table cloth/table runner combination rule. If you are using both a table cloth and a table runner, the table runner shouldn't hang beyond the table cloth, not even the fringe. However, this is a matter of aesthetics, so if you like them to hang, let them hang!
